VIPP TUNNEL, Tasmania.

Retreat to the edge of the world on Bruny island.

Commanding 400 metres of shoreline along the D'entrecasteaux Channel, Tunnel offers an off-grid retreat on Bruny Island.

Showcasing a striking brutalist concrete design by the renowned architects at Room11, Tunnel seamlessly merges art and architecture.

Every interior detail has been carefully considered, from the Danish furnishings by Vipp to the ‘tunnel vision’ water views through the structure.

Two chromatic glass lightwell installations cast a daily kaleidoscope of color across the polished concrete surfaces, creating a unique visual experience for every guest.

Just a 2 minute bushwalk from Tunnel, you’ll find The Studio. A second retreat for guests, the space is designed for moments of creativity, productivity and solitude.

From the doorstep, immerse yourself in the rugged beauty of Bruny Island’s land and sea. Unwind in the outdoor bath, kayak the tranquil waters, cosy up by the outdoor fire or set up a picnic on the peninsula deck.

  • One of Tunnel’s defining features is its kaleidoscopic lightwell installation, a dynamic interplay of colour and time. As the sun moves and seasons shift, vivid hues of yellow, pink, and orange are cast across the concrete interior, marking the changing light at 42° south. Designed to respond to seasonal transitions, the installation ensures that no two visits are ever the same—each experience uniquely shaped by the passage of time and nature’s rhythm.

  • We have created simple forms that do not mimic the context. Rather, we have created forms from which we can reference to comprehend nature.

    - T Bailey, Room 11

  • Abundant views to the island’s fascinating flora and fauna encourage a rebalance of the natural order and turns a visit into a study in the art of slowing down, down under.
